It has been ten long years of anxious anticipation but finally the first official trailer for GTA 6 has landed. Many were beginning to question if the game would ever see the light of day (or if they’d live to see it); however, Rockstar has at last confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.

The trailer, which debuted on 4 December following a leak across social media, revealed the game’s two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, and its setting of Leonida, a fictional state based on Florida that contains the infamous Vice City.

Lucia and Jason appear to be lovers who, when the former is released from prison, return to a life of crime. Either that or GTA 6 chronicles how Lucia ended up incarcerated after embarking on a Bonnie and Clyde-like crime spree with Jason. Either way, we can’t wait to see what the game has in store.

There was a lot to unpack in the 1 minute and 30 second trailer, and there’s a lot of cool stuff that you will probably have missed. Let’s take a look at all the cool easter eggs in the GTA 6 trailer.

GTA 6 Trailer Easter Eggs

Why sixty nine when you can Nine 1 Nine

At the 00:15 mark, we see a plane flying over the city with a banner that reads: “Nine1Nine – why sixty nine when you can Nine 1 Nine”.

This appears to be an advert for a fictional Vice City nightclub based on the real life E11EVEN club in Miami.

Various animals

The GTA 6 trailer showed Vice City as a bustling and densely populated metropolis flooded with people. However, eagle-eyed viewers will also have spotted a number of different animals in the trailer. These include: a dog, an alligator, a lizard, and flamingos.

GTA’s own TikTok

Whether you love social media or you hate it, it’s an integral part of modern day life. Short video sharing platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels are all the rage these days and GTA 6 appears to have a similar app of its own.

Several of the more outrageous clips in the new trailer appear as videos/streams on an app and include user accounts, comments, and likes.

Perhaps players will get to interact with this social media platform as part of the game?

Leonida Man

Florida Man has been a popular meme since 2013. Type the phrase “Florida man” followed by any date into Google and you’re almost guaranteed to come up with an outlandish news story featuring an individual from Florida doing something irrational.

The meme has been recreated in GTA 6 with wacky social media clips including a middle-aged man dancing on a boat with bikini-clad women, a man dragging an alligator out of a pool, a woman twerking on a car, and a fat guy running from police. It is even directly referenced by a fictional user’s screen name: “PlanetLeonidaMan”.

Vice City has a panty sniffer

Yep, you read that right. A billboard seen in the background of one of the aforementioned social media videos shows a Wanted poster for a mysterious panty sniffer who is stalking the streets of Vice City… Gross.

Underwear cash is not accepted

The final shot of the trailer shows Lucia and Jason bursting into a convenience store wearing balaclavas and brandishing firearms. However, on close inspection, we can see that a notice in the door states: “We will no longer accept cash stored in underwear.” Perhaps that’s all they had on them?

Ocean View Hotel

In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, protagonist Tommy Vercetti ventures to the titular city after being released from prison in 1986. On his first night, he stays in the Ocean View Hotel. The same hotel can be seen in the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer at the 00:33 mark.

Nice Tan

Towards the end of the trailer, Lucia and Jason can be seen driving off in a muscle car. The number plater reads: N9C T4N – “Nice Tan”.

Florida Joker

At 01:04, we see a Spanish news broadcast featuring a heavily tattooed individual apparently bound for the Department of Corrections.

The guy’s face tattoos resemble the infamous real-life Florida Joker who has appeared in similar news stories.

The GTA 6 news broadcast reads (online translation): “CONFESSION WRITTEN IN INK (FOR TATTOOS) – A tattoo on his neck that betrayed himself, key in the conviction of a man from Leonida.”

Weazel News

Weazel News – a parody of Fox News – is back in GTA 6. The patriotic news network can be seen covering dirt bike drivers that have been terrorising the city.

G-Spotlight motorbike jump

Early on in the trailer, Lucia and Jason can be seen driving down the highway in a red convertible. In the distance, a tall building with a rectangular hole in the middle is visible.

This building appears in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City during the G-Spotlight mission. In the mission, Tommy Vercetti enters the Rockstar Building on a motorcycle before taking an elevator up to a higher floor, driving out of a window and going through the rectangular gap in the building opposite.

Piswasser Nein

Every GTA player is familiar with Piswasser, the series’ trademark frosty beverage that gets its name from “p*ss water”, a derogatory term used to describe poor quality beer.

The new GTA 6 trailer shows an advertisement for Piswasser Nein, which is presumably a non-alcoholic version of the popular fictional beer.

United States of Paranoia

At 01:03, Lucia can be seen holding a stack of dollar bills. Instead of the usual “United States of America” wording, the top note reads “United States of Paranoia”.
